Martha Beaumont makes installation art and photography, constructing scenes that gently flux between the ‘real’ and the fictional. These sets form the basis of her photographs, revealed to the viewer only in the form of a two-dimensional photographic print.
“My sets reference culturally familiar imagery from cinema and art history to suggest possible narratives. Through using ideas from films, I want to suggest both a sense of familiarity whilst suggesting that perhaps our subconscious has been heavily influenced by fictional cinematic worlds.”
Martha Beaumont was born in Newcastle in 1986. She currently lives and works in London. She completed an MA in Fine Art at City and Guilds of London Art School in 2013 and was awarded the Stephen Gooden Prize for Engraving.
